For my concentrations, I am focusing on songs and how they make me feel.
Adore- GOM (Concentration 1)
Sketch
For my first concentration, I used the song Adore by GOM. In order to portray how this song made me feel, I used symbols, words, and colors. I chose purple and pink because it represents the ups and downs of love. I also added some words from the song that stuck with me. For example, "She" "I need your love" "Love". These were words that stood out to me throughout the whole song. I chose to keep outlines white and black so the colors used would not be interpreted differently. I also used a lot of hearts and tears to, again, relay the message of the ups and downs of love. In order to incorporate pink and purple, I chose to make it as the background so it could capture the eye and still have the symbols and words pop. I also chose to keep the symbols a basic black and white so I could keep the focus on the meaning rather than what they are. I also added the ups and downs of love by placing tear drops and hearts all over the canvas. I also made the eye a highlight of the piece so I could show that it is from my perspective. I enjoyed the fact that I was able to take my views on the music and make it my own. I also enjoyed being able to create such a smooth background. The downside of the project was keeping the lines clean and making sure the white stayed within the bubble.
Homeshake-Call Me Up (Concentration 2)
Sketch
For my second concentration, I chose the song Call Me Up by Homeshake. I chose to use a lot of similar symbols to express the songs meaning and how it means to me. I chose to do a brown and orange background because it created a very monotone mood. I also chose to stick with the eyes to show that the piece is from my perspective and portray how it make me feel. I added tears in all of the eyes because the song made me feel a sense of longing. I also added four bubbles of thought. Each one has something in it that was heard in the song. I chose a broken heart on the bottom right because it made me feel as if I got my heart broken too. I also chose to add tear drop clocks because the song talked about how the person was ready for a call anytime, but we never know if anyone called. Also, I added a male and female figure with space between them to show the distant relationship between the singer and the listener. Lastly, the phone in the middle represents the line, "I'll answer you when you call me up on your phone." Overall, I had a good time making this and choosing the objects. The biggest thing that gave me trouble was keeping the edges smooth on all of the objects.
Cuco-CRV (Concentration 3)
My third concentration is based on the song CRV by Cuco. He discusses, within the song, about having a good time with people in his CRV. I chose this because I also have a CRV and relate to the capabilities that this vehicle has. When listening to this song, it makes me think of driving around in this car and "whipping" around corners. In order to portray this, I chose to add smoke, roads, and flames on the back of the piece. I chose t do the car out of oil paint. I had greater success with this medium than most times that I've used it. This was mainly because there was not a lot of variety in colors on the CRV. I used acrylic for the designs outside of the vehicle. I did this because it was easier to control and I prefer to use oil paint when dealing with value change or blending colors. The background is also acrylic because it is easier to paint over then oil and the colors stand out more. Overall, I enjoyed this project because it was simple, but it also has a lot of small details: such as the switch in medium throughout the piece.
Concentration 4: "Ain't Callin Me Baby"
My fourth concentration was based on the song "Ain't Callin Me Baby" by vbnd. It was a very fast paced song, but it felt like water. So I decided to make this piece about water. I chose to incorporate the music aspect by making some of the water droplets music notes. I also thought just blue would be bland, so I added white to the water to give it highlights. I enjoyed working with oil paint because I was able to add texture by layering the paint instead of blending it. I also enjoyed using acrylic as the background because it's easier to paint over without accidentally blending. The biggest challenge for me was keeping the colors from mixing. I did the water first and that wasn't a problem, but when I began to do the red background I had difficulty with keeping it from getting on the blue. Overall, I had a good time making this piece because I got to use oil paint.
Concentration 5: "Aries-Blossom (biskwiq flip)
For my fifth concentration, I based it off the song Blossom, by Aries flipped by biskwiq. I used the outdoor theme because the first half of the song was very outdoorsy and it seemed colorful in my head. I chose to use prisma color because it was something different compared to all of the painted concentrations I had. I was able to add different colors by adding dashes to the areas. By doing this, I was able to add hints of other colors instead of focusing on the main color that the area would need. I also was able to make everything seem smooth, except for the tree, by going over the area with white prisma. For the tree, I used softer x's to add a different texture in comparison to the other areas of the concentration. The biggest difficulty was making sure you could see the separate areas on the water and that it didn't look like one big thing of water. Overall, I enjoyed using the prisma colors and finding new techniques within this medium.

FINAL ARTIST STATEMENT
Throughout my art experience, I've gained a lot of new knowledge about art and developed new techniques. I learned how to use oil, acrylic, and prisma colors in a lot of new ways. I also learned about what to do before making a painting on canvas. I'm glad that I am able to take with me new techniques and use them in future projects. Overall, I really enjoyed my time in art. I made a lot of new friends and talked a lot about new topics. I also enjoyed all of the projects we've worked on. They were fun and new. I will be taking these memories with me to college and will be talking to a lot of the people that I've met through art in the future.
